The National Foundation for Development and Humanitarian Response (NAHR) is a not-for-profit and non-governmental organization (NGO) that was established June 2012 in Yemen. Our vision is a peaceful and stable Yemen free of poverty, in which all people have equal access to basic needs and human rights, and our mission is to provide an integrated humanitarian and development response to aid Yemen and other conflict-affected countries through a professional, neutral, and transparent approach.
We aim to achieve our overall vision and mission by working to enhance local communities' development and stability through identifying structural causes of poverty, raising awareness, increasing access to basic services, and focusing on building citizens' capacities, especially women and youth, so as to enable their participation in the decision-making process that leads to sustainable development and a peaceful society within their developing and conflict-affected countries. NAHR aims to accomplish these goals through its seven core programs: Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL); Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH); Health and Nutrition; Education; Gender and Protection; Shelter and Non-food items (NFIs); and Peacebuilding and Governance.
In the process of recruitment, selection, and appointment NAHR implement a range of procedures and actions including Criminal Background Checks/ International vetting/Certificate of good conduct to ensure children and vulnerable adults are safeguarded and abuse is prevented.
NAHR has zero tolerance on sexual exploitation and abuse. All employment offers are conditional upon the receipt of satisfactory references and the signing our code of conduct, Safeguarding Policy with a particular focus on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Child Safeguarding. This position will also be subject to robust reference and background screening checks.

Sustainability and Social Impact Officer Job Description
The Sustainability and Social Impact Officer plays a critical role in ensuring that all program and project activities align with environmental protection standards and social equity principles. The Officer will work proactively to identify, mitigate, and monitor environmental and social risks associated with project implementation. In doing so, the Officer will help the organization promote sustainable development practices, prevent negative impacts, and strengthen community relationships and trust. The role also involves building the capacity of teams and partners on E&S issues and ensuring inclusive, transparent, and participatory engagement with local communities.
Main Tasks
1. Environmental and Social Risk Assessment
· Conduct initial environmental and social screening for all proposed project activities using established E&S risk assessment tools.
· Classify project activities by risk level (Low, Medium, High) based on potential environmental and social impacts.
· Develop and maintain comprehensive risk classification documentation, including justifications for assigned risk levels.
· Liaise with relevant departments to ensure appropriate environmental and social considerations are integrated into activity design.
· Support the design of appropriate mitigation strategies for all identified risks.
2. Implementation of Sustainability and Accountability Principles
· Ensure all project implementation activities are guided by the principle of "do no harm," aiming to avoid environmental damage and social exclusion.
· Promote gender equity, disability inclusion, and the participation of marginalized or vulnerable groups.
· Ensure project activities are aligned with environmental sustainability goals, such as resource efficiency, pollution prevention, and biodiversity protection.
· Promote open and continuous communication with community stakeholders to enhance transparency.
· Coordinate regular engagement and consultation with affected communities, particularly before starting medium- and high-risk activities.
3. Monitoring, Reporting, and Compliance
· Continuously monitor the effectiveness of environmental and social mitigation measures.
· Conduct field visits and collect relevant data to assess the impact of implemented interventions.
· Prepare detailed sections for quarterly, interim, and final reports, focusing on environmental and social performance indicators.
· Document lessons learned, challenges, and best practices related to E&S performance.
· Ensure compliance with both internal standards and applicable national environmental and social regulations.
4. Grievance and Community Feedback Mechanism
· Establish, maintain, and regularly update a safe, accessible, and confidential grievance mechanism.
· Raise awareness in the community about how to access the complaints and feedback system.
· Monitor complaint trends and ensure timely responses and corrective actions.
· Document all complaints, resolutions, and lessons learned, and include them in periodic reports.
· Analyze feedback to improve the effectiveness and responsiveness of project implementation.
5. Capacity Building and Awareness
· Serve as the focal point for all matters related to environmental and social standards within the organization.
· Facilitate orientation and training sessions for project staff, local partners, and stakeholders.
· Develop tools, guidelines, and reference materials to support environmental and social compliance.
· Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement around E&S practices.
· Stay up to date with evolving best practices, policies, and regulations relevant to sustainability and social impact.
Required Qualifications and Skills
· Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an asset.
· Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in humanitarian, development, or non-profit sectors.
· Proven experience in environmental and social risk management, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building.
· Familiarity with global and local environmental and social safeguards standards.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with diverse communities.
· Strong organizational and analytical abilities, including experience in monitoring and reporting.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in challenging environments.
· Fluency in English is required; Arabic proficiency is a strong asset.

We Offer
· A gross monthly salary with pay grade D2, according to NAHR’s grade scale.
· 22 vacation days per year
· National Holidays according to Yemeni calendar
