The National Foundation for Development and Humanitarian Response (NAHR) is a not-for-profit and non-governmental organization (NGO) that was established June 2012 in Yemen. We aim to achieve our overall vision and mission by working to enhance local communities' development and stability through identifying structural causes of poverty, raising awareness, increasing access to basic services, and focusing on building citizens' capacities, especially women and youth, so as to enable their participation in the decision-making process that leads to sustainable development and a peaceful society within their developing and conflict-affected countries. NAHR aims to accomplish these goals through its seven core programs: Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL); Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH); Health and Nutrition; Education; Gender and Protection; Shelter and Non-food items (NFIs); and Peacebuilding and Governance.
In the process of recruitment, selection, and appointment NAHR implement a range of procedures and actions including Criminal Background Checks/ International vetting/Certificate of good conduct to ensure children and vulnerable adults are safeguarded and abuse is prevented.
NAHR has zero tolerance on sexual exploitation and abuse. All employment offers are conditional upon the receipt of satisfactory references and the signing our code of conduct, Safeguarding Policy with a particular focus on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Child Safeguarding. This position will also be subject to robust reference and background screening checks.

1. Background
The Nutrition Specialist is responsible for the planning, implementation, technical oversight, and quality assurance of all nutrition interventions within the assigned project area. The position ensures the effective delivery of community-based and facility-based nutrition services, including nutrition screening, management of acute malnutrition, infant and young child feeding (IYCF), growth monitoring, micronutrient interventions, and nutrition education. The Nutrition Specialist provides technical guidance to field teams, strengthens the capacity of health workers, supports nutrition assessments and reporting, and ensures that all nutrition activities are implemented in accordance with national protocols, Sphere Standards, and internationally recognized humanitarian and public health nutrition guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide overall technical leadership and supervision for all nutrition activities implemented at health facilities and community levels in accordance with the Ministry of Health guidelines and international standards (WHO, UNICEF, and Sphere).
· Supervise and provide technical support to Nutrition Teams, Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Counsellors, and Mother Care Groups to ensure high-quality service delivery and achievement of project objectives.
· Develop and monitor weekly and monthly work plans for nutrition teams and ensure timely implementation of planned activities.
· Ensure proper implementation of nutrition protocols, including screening, assessment, management of acute and moderate malnutrition, referral, and follow-up services.
· Oversee the delivery of high-quality IYCF counselling services and ensure consistent dissemination of key nutrition and infant feeding messages.
· Supervise and strengthen the performance of Mother Care Groups to promote optimal maternal, infant, and young child nutrition practices within the community.
· Conduct regular supportive supervision visits to health facilities and community activities, providing mentoring, feedback, and performance improvement plans.
· Build the capacity of health workers, IYCF counsellors, and community volunteers through formal training and on-the-job coaching.
· Monitor nutrition program performance indicators, analyze findings, and develop corrective actions to improve service quality.
· Ensure the availability, proper utilization, and accountability of nutrition commodities and supplies (e.g., RUTF, RUSF, MUAC tapes, and nutrition registers) in coordination with the Supply Chain team.
· Review and verify the completeness, accuracy, and quality of nutrition records, registers, and monthly reports before submission.
· Analyze nutrition data, prepare technical reports, and contribute to donor reporting and project monitoring requirements.
· Coordinate with the Ministry of Health, humanitarian partners, and other stakeholders to strengthen nutrition services and ensure effective coordination.
· Promote integration of nutrition services with primary health care, maternal and child health, immunization, reproductive health, and mental health services where appropriate.
· Support the planning and implementation of community nutrition awareness and behavior change activities promoting optimal breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and healthy nutrition practices.
· Ensure effective referral and follow-up mechanisms for beneficiaries requiring specialized nutrition or medical services.
· Participate in nutrition assessments, surveys, supportive monitoring visits, and joint field missions as required.
· Ensure compliance with protection principles, Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP), safeguarding, confidentiality, and non-discrimination throughout nutrition service delivery.
· Identify implementation challenges, recommend practical solutions, and provide regular updates to the Health Coordinator/Project Manager.
· Perform any other nutrition-related duties assigned by the Health Coordinator or Project Manager to support successful implementation of project objectives.
· Prepare, review, and submit monthly staff documentation, attendance records, and supporting documents required for incentive payments, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timely submission.
· Coordinate and follow up on procurement requests for nutrition activities, monitor the procurement process, and ensure the timely availability of nutrition supplies, equipment, and program materials.
· Plan, organize, supervise, and monitor nutrition-related trainings, workshops, and capacity-building activities for health workers, IYCF counsellors, and community volunteers, ensuring quality implementation and proper documentation.
· Coordinate training logistics, including participant selection, training schedules, attendance verification, training materials, and post-training reporting.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: University degree in Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, Public Health, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience implementing nutrition programs in humanitarian, emergency, or development settings, including community-based nutrition interventions, infant and young child feeding (IYCF), and the management of acute malnutrition. Experience within Abyan Governorate or Khanfar District is highly desirable.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of national and international nutrition guidelines and standards, including CMAM, IYCF, micronutrient interventions, growth monitoring, nutrition assessments, and Sphere Standards. Familiarity with nutrition surveillance, screening methodologies, and integration of nutrition services within primary healthcare is highly desirable.
- Skills: Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to deliver nutrition education sessions, provide technical guidance to field teams, analyze nutrition data, and coordinate effectively with health facilities, community leaders, and humanitarian partners.
- Languages: Fluency in written and spoken Arabic is mandatory; professional proficiency in English is required for preparing technical reports, documentation, and coordination with stakeholders.
- IT Skills: Strong competency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), nutrition data management and reporting tools, and mobile data collection platforms (e.g., Kobo Toolbox, ODK, or similar applications).
